Quarantine got you down? Are you having trouble keeping children occupied? Are you worried about missing therapy sessions? Worry not, tele rehabilitation is the answer to this! But how? What are the requirements? First let’s clear some doubts. There is no doubt that tele rehabilitation will help in these trying times. It will not replace face to face consultations. It can help in consultations when distance, time and feasibility of therapy becomes an issue. So how? All you need is a good internet connection and a reasonably quiet place in your house which has good lighting. In case of children it is useful to use the child’s play area for the session as the therapist can observe the child’s play as well. Older children who may be able to sit in traditional chair/table must be encouraged to do so. Why teletherapy? It is a very useful tool for Parent coaching. Parent education and counseling is an important part of our therapy. Parents are the best people to implement our goals and plans made for their children. It uses natural situations at home so learning new skills may be easier. Modelling of activities of daily living can be taught in the natural situations. Traveling time is reduced. In some cases, it is cost effective Tele therapy focuses on engaging parent as part of the treatment process just as face to face therapy would. The advantage of teletherapy is the availability of home environment observations and reduction in travelling time, which is difficult for some children with Autism spectrum disorders. Additionally, in these trying times it is also a good medium for parents to air out their problems in a safe environment with their Speech Language Pathologist! We are open for tele rehabilitation!
