How to stimulate your child's language? All children learn to speak by observing their environment and interacting with their environment. As parents and caregivers to our children we must, • Create different experiences within the environment: Let every interaction with the child be something new and which the child may enjoy. Play peek-a-boo, pat-a-cake etc to encourage the child’s participation. Let him lead sometimes to show you what interests him/her. • Let children hear the speech of everyone in the environment: A variety of speech sounds are spoke in every language. The development of speech sounds also develops along with language. Therefore, it is important for the child to be exposed to the speech of everyone in the environment. • Let children have an opportunity to repeat or imitate words and short sentences that are heard: Encourage child’s each and every attempt to communicate using vocalisations, words or phrases. Model the parts that he/she misses out on or says incorrectly. • Generate a need or desire to communicate: It's important that as parents we generate a talking environment. An environment where child needs to communicate to be given any object, any toy etc. Overall a language rich talking environment is a key factor for children to develop good language skills.
