On occasion of World voice day some important tips for maintaining your voice.. 1. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day. Drink warm water if possible. 2. Avoid oily, fried foods as much as possible. 3. Avoid excessive drinking of coffee, tea, aerated and hard drinks. 4. Avoid excessive talking on the phone for long periods of time. If absolutely necessary use breaks in between long periods of talking. 5. Use an amplification system while addressing students in classrooms. 6. Do not raise your voice or strain your voice. If any voice breaks occur, drink some warm water. 7. Don't clear your throat or cough habitually. 8. Don't speak in a low monotone or allow pitch vocal energy to drop so low that the sound becomes gravelly (glottal fry). 9. Do keep the voice at a comfortable pitch. 10. Don't force your voice in a register beyond comfortable pitch. 11. Do keep your keep your upper and lower teeth separated allowing the jaw to remain passive and flowing as you speak. 12. Don't ever clench your teeth or hold your jaw tense. 13. Do position yourself as close as possible, and always face the person you are speaking with. 14. Don't out-talk or out-sing environmental noise. 15. Don't ever whisper. 16. Do allow for several periods of voice rest during the day, especially when ill or tired. 17. Don't use your voice extensively when you have a cold. 18. Take steam inhalation everyday for keeping vocal mechanism moist. 19. Drink some warm water with honey in the morning 20. Use your voice carefully, avoid situations which may require you to raise your voice.
